I have a
wide laptop, but the Jotto Desk ACD Desktop is only 10" x 12", is there
a bigger desk available to fit my size of computer?
The ACD Desktop size is really not a
factor. What is important is the length of cables that are used to
secure your laptop to the desktop.
How do I determine which length of cables I will need to secure my laptop?
Cable length requirement is determined
by measuring the width of your laptop computer from edge to edge,
straight across the keyboard.
- - If the width of your laptop measures less than 12.5" = Request 20" Cables
- - If the width of your laptop measures 12.5" - 15.5" = use the Standard 22" Cables
- - If the width of your laptop measures more than 15.5" = Request 26.75" Cables
How do I ask for a different cable length if I place my order online?
If you do not request specific length
cables, your Jotto Desk mount will be shipped to you with the standard
22" cables. If placing the order online, there is a "Comments" section
where you will be able to enter the size of cables that you require.
You can also contact the Customer Service Department at Jotto Desk
prior to placing your order for additional assistance.
If I
purchase a Jotto Desk mount or already own one, what is necessary if I
change vehicles and wish to move my desk to the new one?
One great feature of Jotto Desk laptop
mounts is that the majority of the unit is universal. All that may be
required for you to move your mount to a different vehicle, is for a
new base to be purchased. Once the new base has been purchased and
installed, the stand section, articulating arm and ACD desktop can be
mounted onto the new base. (A new rod or tube may be required,
depending on height variations - contact Customer Service to help
determine).
What is the difference between a Universal Mount and a No Holes Mount?
The primary difference between the two is how they are mounted into the vehicle.
No Holes Mounts are by far the most
popular, easiest to install and sturdiest mounting solution offered by
Jotto Desk. These mounts are installed into the vehicles utilizing
either the passenger seat bolts or other pre-existing vehicle mounting
location. They require no drilling to install, utilize OEM hardware
and have been the mount of choice in many tough usage industries. Most
mounts will only fit into the vehicle they were designed for with 1-2
mounts being able to fit multiple vehicles.
Universal Mounts are unique in that
they can be installed into most any vehicle. These mounts are
installed using (6) 1.25" self-tapping tech screws. The self-tapping
screws require no pre-drilling, leaving minimal impact on the
appearance of your installation location. In fact, most users of
Universal Mounts are able to silicone the holes and brush the carpet
where the self-tapping screws were while the mount was installed.
Will I lose my passenger seat in order to accommodate the Jotto Desk laptop mount?
The Jotto Desk is designed with
passenger comfort in mind. Generally, the vertical stand assembly of
the Jotto Desk will come up from the floor and be located at the
left/front corner of the passenger seat. This allows the majority of
the seat to be utilized by the passenger.
NOTE: To avoid serious injury, do
not place this desk or any objects between the airbag(s) and yourself
or any passengers. If necessary remove the desk while driving.
Can the laptop mount be easily removed from the vehicle?
Yes. The ACD Desktop, articulating arm
and vertical stand assembly can be easily removed without the use of
any hand tools in minutes. Because of the "passenger friendly" nature
of the Jotto Desk, most will find removing the mount unnecessary. But
the option is there if you desire.
Can I close my laptop screen across the nylon cables?
The cables that Jotto Desk uses to
secure your laptop to the desktop are very thin, but extremely strong
Aircraft Cables (braided metal strands) coated in nylon to protect your
laptop. These cables are thin enough that many laptops are able to
completely close and latch when desired. Not all laptops are created
equal and in some cases the gap between screen and keyboard is not
enough to allow it to close completely without putting undue stress on
the hinges. Jotto Desk recommends not forcing the screen closed as
damage may occur.
Will the cables get in the way of my keys and make it hard to type?
No. The cables are attached to draw
latches which can be positioned to where the top cable will be above
your number keys and the bottom cable positioned below your space bar,
yet above your mouse glide pad.
Does Jotto Desk provide a locking solution for their laptop mount to prevent theft?
Many competitors offer a "locking
desktop" with their laptop mounts which locks the laptop to the
desktop. Yet they fail to secure the desktop or the arm or the stand
section...making the locking desktop as effective as locking the doors
of a convertible car...while the top is down. Even though the laptop
would be locked to the desktop, it would in no way prevent someone from
removing the desk with your laptop attached.
For that reason, Jotto Desk suggest the
use of a "Kensington Lock." The Kensington Lock is attached to 6' of
steel cable that is looped around the seat structure or steering wheel
and then inserted/locking into the Kensington Port found on almost all
laptop computers. The advantage to this kind of lock is visibility and
the fact that the laptop itself is secured to the vehicle, not the
desktop.
